Post BMW e36 grassroots/budget tricks
Recently picked up a 96 BMW 328 for the Grassroots Motorsports Challenge 09. This was a last minute decision based on the car costing $500. Car was previously supercharged and was sold minus the supercharger setup. Did come with a beat carbon fiber hood, M bumper, Koni adjustables/eibachs, 17" AC Shnitzer wheels, nice exhaust. Car needs a driver side door/fender, passenger headlight, headlight/kidney surround panel. It needs a LSD rear and was wondering which bolt in diff should we try to find. Need to eliminate rear sway bar for auto xing? Convert to OBD1? Any cheap power adder/autocross tips will be appreciated. We have less then 10 days to gut/build and shine up :uh:

The 92-95 325 cold weather package cars got a 3.15 LSD. They are pretty cheap and readily available. They will bolt right up to your car, the ratio is a little shorter than the 2.93 that came in the 328 so you'll pick up some straight line speed. I'd sell you mine, but I'm going to end up using it.
Rear sway bar is personal preference. If you aren't having problems putting the power down I'd say leave it connected. OBDI conversion is not necessary.
Putting the 93-95 325 intake manifold on will increase your upper RPM breathing tremendously, and is the popular thing to do on 328's. If you can find a used set of M3 cams and the software they will also get you a lot of juice.

Search bimmerforums for sale section, as well as craigslist/car-part.com for the rest of the parts you need.

car was a blast to drive at the autox this past Sunday, even without the LSD. Leaving for Grassroots Motorsports Challenge tommorow, also signed car up for an autox on Gainsville Raceway 's mini road course. Thanks for another good event this past Sunday. Looks like a complete M swap is planned when we get back

Have fun... Mike Depietro will be down there for the autocross Sat. It's not a miata, but I am sure he would still drive it if you asked him to!
